Cobram Estate, Australia’s most awarded Extra Virgin olive oil producer, has been recognized for the outstanding quality of its Extra Virgin olive oils against the world's best at the inaugural 2013 New York International Olive Oil Competition.

Cobram Estate’s freshly harvested 2013 Extra Virgin olive oils received a total of two Best-in-Class trophies and four Gold Medals, including winning Best-in-Class in the Medium single varietal category for the limited release Ultra-Premium Hojiblanca (link esterno) and Best-in-Class in the Robust single varietal category for the limited release Ultra-Premium Picual (link esterno). Cobram Estate Premiere and Cobram Estate Classic were also awarded gold medals.

An extraordinarily aromatic Ultra Premium Extra Virgin olive oil. It displays intense and complex aromas of fresh cut grass and a rather undefined mix of ripe and unique tropical fruits. The palate is sweet and creamy with low levels of bitterness and a very slight late pungency.
The New York competition, held for the first time in 2013, assembled an international panel of leading experts to identify and honour the very best Extra Virgin olive oils in the world.

“This is the definitive contest to crown this year’s very best olive oils (link esterno)” commented Curtis Cord, President of the New York International Olive Oil Competition.

Cobram Estate entered a total of four fresh, 2013 harvest olive oils, each of which received a gold medal or better, and competed against more than 700 other entries including some of the most prestigious brands from Italy, Spain and California.

Cobram Estate’s Chief Oil Maker Leandro Ravetti is thrilled with the result: “Winning four gold medals, including two Best in Class, out of four entries in such a competitive event is exciting proof of the outstanding quality and freshness of our oils” he said.
“It is not well known but fresher, higher quality olive oils have greater health benefits. I am proud that high quality comes naturally with Cobram Estate” Ravetti noted.

Olives are an annual crop and are ready for picking between late March and early June in Australia. Cobram Estate’s 2013 harvest olive oils are selected from the company’s 2.1 million trees spread over 14,000 acres of pristine farmland.

“Australian Extra Virgin olive oils are now regarded as some of the world’s best” commented Lisa Rowntree, CEO of the Australian Olive Association.

“The Australian olive industry prides itself on producing fresh, high quality, authentic Extra Virgin olive oils” Rowntree said.
